GST, HST, VAT pass through. Xero applies its own tax rules based on the invoice line items and customer registration.

Tracking categories

Phase 2.5: map Sembr tier or event categories to Xero tracking categories for finer-grained reporting.

Xero is on the Phase 2 accounting roadmap alongside QuickBooks Online and Sage. Particularly common in Australia, New Zealand, and UK nonprofits, so its priority shifts with those markets. Xero Practice Manager and Xero Workpapers are not in initial scope.

Common questions.

How does this handle GST / HST / VAT?
Sembr passes the tax breakdown on each invoice to Xero. Xero applies its own tax rules based on the invoice line items and the customer's tax registration. You configure tax rates once in Xero; the integration respects them.
What about the Xero "Tracking Categories" feature?
Phase 2.5. You'll be able to map Sembr's tier or event categories to Xero tracking categories for finer-grained reporting (e.g., revenue by program, by chapter, by event series).
Can multiple Sembr workspaces sync to one Xero account?
Yes. If you run multiple chapters or sub-organizations on Sembr but consolidate into one Xero file, each Sembr workspace connects to a separate Xero account code or tracking category. Talk to us if this is your setup; we'll help configure it.
