How to evaluate an AI assistant built into your membership platform

Questions to ask about any AI feature

  1. What member data does it have access to?
  2. Can you disable it without losing other functionality?
  3. Does it ever act autonomously, or always with human approval?
  4. How is your member data handled by the underlying AI provider?
  5. Is AI involvement disclosed to members when relevant?

Red flags

  • 'AI' is a label on a rules-based system with no actual model
  • No data isolation between tenants
  • AI can send emails or process payments without human approval
  • No opt-out path for tenants or members
